I did not see Lifetime’s Aaliyah movie, produced by Wendy Williams, who took up the helm after Zendaya left the project and it seemed like Lifetime was going to shelve the project. It would seem that she should have let the project die its natural death, since the end result was hundreds and thousands of fans rallying up as one to denounce the film and Lifetime’s casting choices of Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, R. Kelly and others.

Twitter displayed who was chosen to play the cast:

And then proceeded to diss the film. Timbaland and Zendaya themselves tweeted and instagrammed their reactions to the film (although Zendaya later deleted her Instagram post):

Hope yall not watching this!!!!!!!! A photo posted by Timbo the King (@timbaland) on Nov 11, 2014 at 5:27pm PST

#Zendaya’s & #Timbaland’s responses to the #Aaliyahmovie that premiered tonight. Zendaya deleted hers, though. #Boop

Of course, the funniest, trillest side of Twitter, now known (for better or worse) as “Black Twitter,” proceeded to drag the movie until it tore apart at the seams.

Ok I’m done #aaliyahmovie

There are certainly many, many more tweets and memes out there that I’ve laughed at and couldn’t fit into just one blog post. Which ones are your favorites? Did you watch the movie? What did you think of it? Give me your responses (and memes) in the comments section!
