Several years ago, I made a post about some plus-size women who should be cast in rom-coms. Specifically, I wanted to highlight plus-size women of color who weren’t Queen Latifah and Mo’Nique, since those two have been in rom-coms and, especially in Queen Latifah’s case, are often the go-tos when Hollywood wants to actually open up to rom-coms starring plus-size women of color. Not taking anything away from these two ladies–I’m a massive fan of Queen Latifah, and I grew up watching Mo’Nique on The Parkers. But we need Hollywood to embrace more women of color who aren’t a size 2.
So here’s my update to the list, adding some of today’s stars who have shown up for plus-size representation. Go all the way to the end of the slideshow to read who I added to the list as a special mention.
