Special mention: Natalie Desselle-Reid

I want to give a special commendation to Natalie Desselle-Reid, who was given far too little work in Hollywood (in my opinion) despite her immense talent.

Desselle-Reid is a mold-breaker in the area of Black plus-size women being romantic interests in films. You might think Halle Berry’s character in B.A.P.S. would have been the one with the romantic side-quest in the film, but it was actually Desselle-Reid’s character who has the romantic storyline with her own Casanova. Plus, when I spoke to Paolo Montalban about acting with her, he said that he felt she could have headlined her own Bridget Jones-esque rom-com. Her comedic timing and kind personality made her a joy to be around. She might not have gotten to headline her own rom-com franchise, but she has still paved the way for plus-size representation.
